The Apples in Stereo

$20.00

Without the Apples in Stereo, there would be no Elephant 6. Without Robert Schneider, there would be no Neutral Milk Hotel. In author Josh Bloom’s first-person account, you get to decide whether these claims are truth or myth.

The first biography dedicated to a core Elephant 6 artist, The Apples in Stereo is based on extensive interviews with Robert Schneider and also includes exclusive contributions by all the key band members from the group’s formative years.

This entertaining, often dramatic story frames an essential catalog of pop-rock perfection that will be part of every playlist you make from now on. Join this sometimes-psychedelic, subtly therapeutic, always-artistically-ambitious journey, and be sure to keep your headphones on!

About the author

Josh Bloom published his first newsletter before turning ten, written using his next-door neighbor’s typewriter, copied with carbon paper, and distributed to mailboxes on his bicycle. His first story was the obituary of John Belushi. Strange for a ten-year-old? Yes!

  • “I am really moved... It packs an emotional punch. An honest book by an honest author.” —Robert Schneider, The Apples in Stereo

“A deliciously singular work that defies classification and makes us rethink the rock book.”

—Jedd Beaudoin, host of NPR’s “Into Music”

“An absolute delight... It’s a template for how music biographies should be written.”

    —Frank Valish, Under The Radar

“A uniquely personal, richly detailed account of one of the more essential indie bands of the past 30 years.”

    —Hobart Rowland, MAGNET magazine

“The mythology of the Elephant 6 collective has a way of obscuring some details. Josh isn’t afraid to go mining in the shadowy crevices of the mountain.”

—Chad Stockfleth. director of The Elephant 6 Recording Co.

“Josh’s considered, cubist, and personal approach is the expression of a three-decade obsession.”

—Adam Clair, author or Endless Endless: A Lo-Fi History of the Elephant 6 Mystery
